Common Eye Conditions

Know the signs, protect your sight.

Many eye diseases have no early symptoms. Regular professional eye examinations remain the single best way to protect your vision.

Cataract

“Clouding of the normally clear lens of the eye.”

Cataracts develop gradually, causing blurry vision similar to looking through a cloudy window — regular exams help catch changes early.

Glaucoma

“A group of eye conditions that can cause blindness.”

The optic nerve connecting the eye to the brain becomes damaged, typically due to elevated intraocular pressure.

Diabetic Retinopathy

“Damage to the blood vessels in the tissue at the back of the eye (retina).”

A diabetes-related complication with symptoms including floaters, blurriness, and dark areas of vision, with potential for blindness if untreated.

Age-related Macular Degeneration (ARMD)

“An eye disease that causes vision loss.”

Results in central vision loss through either dry degeneration or wet degeneration involving leaky blood vessels beneath the retina.

Floaters

“Spots in vision that look like black or grey specks or strings that drift across the eyes.”

May result from normal ageing or eye rubbing rather than disease, but sudden increases should always be checked.

Dry Eye Disease

“A common condition that occurs when your tears aren't able to provide adequate lubrication for your eyes.”

Causes discomfort, stinging or burning, and is typically managed through lifestyle modifications and eye drops.
